Nauni varsity VC gets temporary extension
Dr Rajeshwar Singh Chandel will continue to hold charge of Vice Chancellor of Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, after expiry of his three-year tenure yesterday as per a notification issued by the Governor-cum Chancellor of the university.
Chandel was appointed on May 6, 2022 for a term of three years. He was an alumni of the university from where he had done his Ph D in entomology.
Since no search committee has been constituted as of now to decide the new official, Dr Chandel has been directed to continue as per sub section (3) of section 24 of the HP Universities of Agriculture, Horticulture and Forestry, Act, 1986.
The process to appoint a new VC will begin after advertising for the post and seeking applications from eligible candidates.
Chandel’s appointment has come under a cloud as it has been termed unconstitutional by a section of the youth Congress leaders. They took the plea that the High Court quashed the selection process for the VC of agriculture varsity for violating the University Act and similar analogy applied to his appointment.
