Sirmaur prepares for e-bus rollout with new charging stations

In line with the Himachal Pradesh Government’s vision to promote eco-friendly transportation, Sirmaur district is taking a major step forward by preparing to set up three electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. This initiative is aimed at supporting the upcoming introduction of electric buses in the region, making public transport more sustainable and passenger-friendly.

According to official sources, the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) is spearheading the project in the district. HRTC’s Regional Manager Anshit Sharma recently conducted a detailed inspection of the Inter-State Bus Terminals (ISBT) at Nahan and Paonta Sahib. During the visit, three suitable locations were identified for establishing e-charging stations. These include two locations in Nahan — the main bus stand (ISBT) and the HRTC workshop — and one at the Paonta Sahib bus stand.

Sharma confirmed that all formalities related to the setup of these stations have been completed by the corporation, and the installation work will commence shortly. “In the first phase, three locations have been earmarked in the district for establishing e-charging stations. All procedures are complete, and the facility will be made available soon with government support,” he said.

The district is also expected to receive electric buses in the near future. Once introduced, these buses will operate on local routes, providing better transportation services to residents and promoting the use of clean energy. This shift is expected to not only reduce carbon emissions but also lower the operational costs of public transportation over time.

The initiative reflects the state government’s broader strategy to reduce its carbon footprint, cut down on air pollution and modernise public transport infrastructure. The deployment of electric buses in rural and semi-urban districts like Sirmaur marks a significant step toward sustainable development.
