What is Fatah-II, the missile that Pakistan used to target India, intercepted in Sirsa, it is made in…
New Delhi: In a major early morning development in India–Pakistan tensions, reports are emerging that the Indian Armed Forces intercepted a Pakistani Fatah-2 missile in Sirsa, Haryana, on Saturday. India also thwarted Islamabad’s bid to target the Jammu Air Force Station.
The Pakistan Army fired its ballistic missile while it continues unprovoked attacks on Indian cities since Thursday. Notably, several cities in India are on high alert after Pak suicide drones, missiles and artillery attack near border areas in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Jammu and Kashmir.
The Fatah-II missile can carry conventional or potentially tactical nuclear payloads. It also has a non-nuclear precision-strike option, reducing reliance on strategic nuclear weapons for battlefield use.
Fatah 2 Missile
Pakistan’s Fatah-II is a hypersonic ballistic missile which has a range of 400 km. It is a guided artillery rocket system has precision strike capability. Fatah-II is an advanced iteration of Fatah-I and shares similarities with contemporary guided rocket systems such as the US HIMARS-launched GMLRS and China’s PHL series.
The Pakistani missile is capable of carrying both conventional and potentially nuclear warheads. Its precision-strike capability reduces the need for nuclear weapons in direct battlefield engagements.
India launched ‘missile attacks’ on three air bases, claims Pakistan
Meanwhile, Pakistan on Saturday claimed that its three airbases were targeted by Indian suicide drones and missiles. The Pakistan military spokesperson Lt Gen Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry, in a press briefing in Islamabad at around 4 am, said that airbases named: Nur Khan in Rawalpindi’s Chaklala, Murid in Chakwal, and Rafiqui in Jhang district’s Shorkot, of the Pakistan Air Force, were targeted. However, he refrained from providing more details in order to back his claims.
This claim by Pakistan has come amid the escalating tensions between the two countries following ‘Operation Sindoor’, a retaliation operation by New Delhi for a terror attack on April 22 that claimed 26 lives in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam.
Nur Khan air base in Rawalpindi, where the Pakistan military has its headquarters, is around 10 kilometres from the capital Islamabad.
Notably, Nur Khan air base is located in Rawalpindi, 10 km away from Islamabad. It is the airbase where Pak military has its headquarters.
The ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan escalated on Friday night when India launched retaliatory airstrikes on Islamabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and three Pakistani air bases, according to Indian defence sources. Multiple explosions were reported across these Pakistani cities.
