UPI payment Ban: From tomorrow, 10 May, common people may face problems while taking petrol and diesel at petrol pumps. Now most people use UPI payment while making payment at petrol pumps. Tomorrow you will not be able to make UPI payment at petrol pumps. In fact, petrol pump owners in Maharashtra have warned of protests against the freezing of their bank accounts in some cases related to cyber fraud.

According to TOI news, Uday Lodh of Federation of Maharashtra Petrol Dealers Association said that if the government does not intervene, this protest will affect many districts including Mumbai. This protest in Mumbai can be held for one day on 10 May. Lodh said that the money of cyber fraud was traced in the accounts of some petrol pumps, due to which their accounts were sealed. This has angered those pump owners who were dependent on digital payment. The accounts of many pump owners in Vidarbha area have been frozen and the protest can start from there. He clarified that it is not our responsibility to trace the medium through which the payment of customers was made at the petrol pump. We only sell fuel, we cannot be blamed.

Preparations to stop cashless payment

Association sources said that some petrol pump owners in Nagpur have decided not to accept digital payments from May 10. These pumps will give petrol and diesel only in cash. This is because most of the cyber fraud cases have happened through digital means like UPI, credit and debit cards.

Anger also on bank charges

Petrol Dealers Association (Mumbai) President Chetan Modi said that this protest is not only about the account being frozen, but also against the additional charges of banks and companies providing digital payment services. After payment, less amount is reaching the pump owner’s account.

According to sources, at least two petrol pump owners’ accounts have been victims of fraud through fake digital payments, where payment was made from stolen or cloned UPI IDs and cards. Investigating agencies have considered these pump owners as ‘beneficiaries’, while they say that they are innocent. Uday Lodh said that 50-55% of transactions are now cashless and pump owners do not have a record of who made the payment.
