NBC pulls the plug on 'Suits LA' after one season

Suits LA has become the most recent victims of the NBC axe, with the network announcing the end of the legal drama spin-off after its first season. Along with Suits LA, NBC also announced a string show cancellations including Lopez vs. Lopez, Night Court, Found, and The Irrational.

Suits LA is the spin-off series to the hit original series Suits, both of them being true legal dramas to their core. Only minting 1 million viewers and no significant rise in viewership, NBC was forced to cancel this show after just its initial season.

Additionally, the cancellation of the five shows comes as the network aims to make room for 180 hours of National Basketball Association (NBA) coverage in an attempt to increase viewership for the sport, particularly for next season.

Though the spin-off show has a different setting to its predecessor, several actors featured in the original, like Gabriel Macht as Harvey Specter, Rick Hoffman as Louis Litt, and David Costabile as Daniel Hardman. were roped back into the show.

Suits follows Mike Ross, an uncredentialed man, and Specter, the charming and witty senior partner, both a part of a prestigious New York law firm, who deal with the highs and lows of the city’s legal system and complex cases. As the original series gained its name and popularity after it was added to OTT platforms like Netflix and Peacock in 2023 and became the most-streamed show of the year, it was not surprising for NBC to keep the expectations high for its spin-off series.

However, Suits LA—chronicling Ted Black, another charming yet power-driven co-owner of a law firm in Los Angeles, the Harvey Specter of the American West— could not uphold steady viewership.

Currently streaming on JioHotstar, the show is scheduled to air its finale on May 18.
