2 years on, lifts repaired at tech varsity
In a major relief to students and staff members of Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology (DCRUST), the two lifts of the university were recently made functional after two years.
Members of teaching and non-teaching employee associations and students had protested the issue of the defunct lift several times.
Dr Ajay Dabas, president, Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University Teachers’ Association (DCRUTA), said, finally, the lifts at the university had begun working after two years of frequent protests.
Students and employees have been waiting for other basic amenities — including roads, potable water and basic infrastructure in classrooms.
DCRUTA said students, teachers and other employees had regularly been demanding that the lifts be repaired as sick and specially abled students and teachers had been facing problems due to the defunct lifts.
The association added that Rs 15 lakh had been spent for the repair of the two lifts — in the library building and the new teaching block.
DCRUTA alleged that air conditioners in classrooms had been defunct for a long time, and the issue had been raised several times with the university administration, but to no avail.
Students were forced to face problems due to improper ventilation, the association added, stating that roads at the university have been broken for more a year and a half.
Water tanks and filters had not cleaned properly for a long time, Dr Dabas said.
Meanwhile, Vice-Chancellor Shri Prakash Singh and Registrar Dr Ajay Garg inspected the repaired lifts.
Singh said the university administration was committed to providing advanced facilities to the students.
All lifts had been repaired, the Vice-Chancellor added.
The contract for the repair of roads had been allotted and the PWD would begin repair work within a week or two, the VC said.
