Himachal Pradesh University hosts global maths meet

The Himachal Ganita Parishad (HGP) today inaugurated its two-day 3rd International Conference on Recent Trends in Mathematical Sciences (ICRTMS-2025) at Himachal Pradesh University. The event, organised in hybrid mode, has brought together scholars, academicians and researchers from around the world to share and explore the latest advancements in mathematical sciences.

Sponsored by DRDO and SJVN, the conference is dedicated to the memory of the late Prof PL Sharma, founder of HGP and aims to promote high-level academic exchange in the discipline.

The inaugural session began with traditional ceremonies including the pinning of badges, lighting of the ceremonial lamp and the felicitation of dignitaries. Prof Rajesh Sharma, vice-president of HGP, delivered the welcome address, while Dr Shalini Gupta, president of HGP, outlined the objectives of the Parishad and paid tribute to Prof Sharma’s pioneering contributions.

Guests of honour, Prof S. K. Mishra (BHU, Varanasi) and Prof Manoranjan Singh (Magadh University, Bihar), alongside Special Guest Prof RK Sharma (IIT Delhi), shared their insights on the critical importance of continued research in mathematics. The chief guest, Prof Shyam Lal Kaushal, Controller of Examinations at HP University, underlined the role of interdisciplinary collaboration in enhancing mathematical inquiry. Also present was Dr Ramesh Thakur, Director of IQAC at HP University. The session concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr Kamalendra Kumar.

The day’s ‘invited talks’ featured distinguished speakers from global institutions. Prof Anand Nayyar (Vietnam) spoke on cutting-edge developments in quantum computing, and Prof Vijay Gupta (NSUT) discussed advancements in positive linear operators. Dr Nikhil Khanna (Sultan Qaboos University) explored recent trends in Boas transforms, while Prof Anita Tomar (Uttarakhand University) presented work on non-linear phenomena in mathematical systems.

In the afternoon, Prof Shanta Laishram (ISI Delhi) delivered an engaging talk on the Erdos-Rudin conjectures, followed by Prof Pankaj Sharma (Pondicherry University), who delved into Multi-Resolution Analysis using the Haar Wavelet.

The opening day concluded with eight parallel technical sessions conducted in both online and offline modes, offering a rich platform for researchers to present their work and engage in scholarly discussions under the mentorship of leading academic figures.
