A day after drone attacks, Pakistan launches multiple missiles on Jalandhar

A day after multiple drone attacks, Jalandhar saw several missile attacks by Pakistan forces on the intervening night of May 9 and 10. Explosions were heard intermittently keeping residents awake and panicky.

Residents of Kangniwal village near Adampur were woken up around 1.30 am by a loud sound. Villagers said when they went outside, they saw missile debris which included parts of computer hardware. A car parked outside a house got damaged and a water tank in another house developed cracks. Soon after the incident, the district administration imposed a blackout at 1.30 am in the entire city which continued till 6 am.

Missile debris were found at Mand Maur village near Kartarpur this morning. Debris were also found at Rampur Khalian village near Phagwara where an 8-feet deep crater was created in fields.

After 7.15 am on Saturday morning, at least four more explosions were heard. Sirens were sounded by the administration. Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal put out a message, “Jalandhar is on red alert all night. Many objects have been seen and neutralised by the armed forces. Stay calm and stay inside as much as you can.”

Soon after a loud explosion was heard around 8.20 am. A farmer, who was preparing his fields at Nahal village after harvesting his wheat crop, said, “Something came flying from the Ferozepur side and went straight into the ground. A trough was created in fields. The dry straw standing around in the field caught fire.”

DSP Vijay Kanwar Paul said, “Residents of Mand Maur and Nahal villages informed us of fallen missile parts found in fields. We got the parts checked and informed all agencies about the exploded ammunition. The debris will be sent for further investigation.”

Meanwhile, explosions and missile attacks from Pakistan side continued till 10 am today morning. As videos of youth carrying missiles in their hands emerged, Dr Himanshu Aggarwal warned villagers from going near any explosive material.

In Kapurthala, there were drone attacks at three locations. The main site was near Goindwal bridge connecting Doaba with Majha region. As drones struck the site last evening, the cops at the police checkpost had to rush for cover. Drones, however, fell into the Beas river. Drone parts were also found at Amritpal Rajewal village in Kapurthala last evening. A cot lying outside was partly burnt there.
