Dust storm, rain bring respite from heat in national capital
Delhiites woke up to a welcome change in weather on Saturday as dust storm, accompanied by light rains, swept the national capital later in the day. The sudden shift in weather brought much-needed relief from the scorching heat that gripped the capital in recent days.
While some areas reported light drizzles, others experienced heavy rainfall and persistent rain-laden clouds. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had already issued a yellow alert late on Friday night, forecasting scattered rainfall in isolated parts of Delhi and the NCR.
The pleasant weather conditions helped bring down temperatures slightly. On Saturday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 36°C and a minimum of 25.8°C, 0.7 degrees below the seasonal average. Gusty winds prevailed throughout the day, offering a cool reprieve for residents.
According to the IMD, similar conditions are expected to continue. Thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall are likely in Delhi on Sunday, with the minimum temperature forecasted at 27°C and the maximum at 38°C. The weather department also predicts partly cloudy skies over the capital till May 16.
IMD scientist Dr Naresh Kumar said temperatures across northwest India, including Delhi, may rise by 4-6°C in the coming week. The department has urged residents to stay updated and take necessary precautions as weather patterns fluctuate.
