Online Application Made Mandatory For Meat Sale License In Navi Mumbai: NMMC
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has announced that meat vendors operating within the city limits must now apply online for a meat sale license through the official NMMC website. This move is part of the civic body’s effort to regulate meat sales and ensure compliance with health and structural safety norms.
In accordance with the provisions of Section 458 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act, 1949, and the by-laws governing slaughterhouses, the NMMC has strictly prohibited the operation of private slaughterhouses or the sale of meat for human consumption without prior permission from the Corporation.
Further strengthening the licensing process, a government resolution issued by the Revenue and Forest Department on April 23, 2025 (Ref. No. Sankirna-2025/PR No. 19/M-6), has made it mandatory for all commercial establishments to submit a 'Building Completion Certificate' or 'Occupancy Certificate' when applying for business licenses. This step is intended to curb unauthorized constructions across the city.
NMMC has urged all meat business operators to visit the corporation’s website www.nmmc.gov.in, navigate to the ‘Citizen Services’ section, and access the Health Department section to complete the online application process.
"Applicants are required to upload the necessary documents, including the mandated building completion or occupancy certificate," a spokesperson from NMMC said.
The civic body has also issued a stern warning to unauthorized meat vendors, asking them to shut down their operations immediately to avoid legal action.
