Yamunanagar councillors back ‘One Nation, One Election’ plan
In a show of support for the ‘One Nation, One Election’ initiative, a meeting of municipal councillors was held at the office of the Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ), located at Kanhaiya Sahib Chowk on Sunday.
The meeting, chaired by Mayor Suman Bahmani, was attended by BJP leader Nepal Rana, municipal councillors and other political representatives. All councillors present unanimously signed a resolution in favour of holding simultaneous elections across the country.
The resolution will now be sent to the President, reflecting the sentiments of the public and the support of local bodies for the initiative.
Mayor Suman Bahmani said the MC fully supports the Centre’s push for simultaneous elections, describing it as a step towards strengthening Indian democracy. “Repeated elections not only drain the country’s financial resources but also disrupt administrative functioning and development plans,” she said.
She further noted that conducting Lok Sabha and Assembly elections simultaneously would save time, money and energy, while also providing greater convenience to voters and potentially increasing voter turnout.
“One Nation, One Election will bring economic stability and accelerate development,” the Mayor added.
Echoing her sentiments, BJP leader Nepal Rana called the initiative a historic step inspired by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He thanked the councillors for their unanimous support and said the system would enhance administrative stability and optimise national resources.
Municipal councillors present at the meeting included Reena Rastogi, Arun Kumar, Jayanti Swami, Ruchi, Bhanu Pratap, Priyank Sharma, Bhavana, Kiran, Santosh, Tilak Raj, Krishna Singla, Sandeep Dhiman, Dixit Kumar, Ujjwal Banyal, Harjeet Anand, Vikram Rana, Manjeet Kaur and Ruchi Sharma.
