Punjab: Three tech varsities being run without regular VC
Three technical universities in Punjab continue to function without a regular vice-chancellor.
A government effort to appoint Prof DP Goyal as the first regular VC of Ferozepur’s Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University had failed after he declined to join, citing personal reasons.
The other two varsities that are operating without a regular VC are Maharaja Ranjit Singh PTU, Bathinda, and Sardar Beant Singh State University, Gurdaspur.
Susheel Mittal, VC of IK Gujral PTU, holds the additional charge of the Gurdaspur and Ferozepur technical universities.
The term of the officiating VC of the Bathinda varsity had ended in March last year. Sandeep Kansal, Dean (Faculty), held the charge till then.
According to sources, interviews for the post of the Bathinda university VC were held in December last year but no name could be finalised till now.
Appointment process approved in November
Even the Registrar of the university, who is on a three-year deputation from the Polytechnic Department, is being given monthly extensions as his deputation period ended last year.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had given his approval to appoint regular VCs at Gurdaspur and Ferozepur universities in November last year.
