Mother our first teacher, doctor & guide, says CM

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday honoured 400 women doctors for their outstanding contribution to public health at the “National Obesity Care Conference” held at the India International Centre (IIC).

The event saw the presence of prominent medical experts including Dr HK Chopra, Dr Naresh Trehan, Dr M Khalilullah, Dr Vivek Kumar, and Dr Rajiv Garg.

Addressing the gathering, CM Gupta termed women doctors as real frontline heroes who go beyond clinics to serve in trauma centres, relief camps and national health missions.

“Your spirit of service, knowledge and determination gives us the strength to overcome any challenge,” she said.

Highlighting the growing health crisis of obesity in India, especially among women, the Chief Minister said, “Around 65 per cent of women aged 40-60 suffer from central obesity, which is a major indicator of cardiovascular and other lifestyle-related diseases.”

She emphasised the need for immediate and holistic preventive strategies, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision.

Proposing a “mission obesity care” as a public-private partnership (PPP), CM Gupta urged doctors to launch a social movement around obesity awareness.

“Prevention is the most affordable and effective solution,” she stated, while sharing a mantra for healthy living — balanced diet, regular exercise, yoga, good sleep and stress management.

She also called attention to the unique physiological and hormonal challenges faced by women and advocated for empowering them with accurate health information and resources.

On the occasion of Mother’s Day, CM Gupta paid an emotional tribute to mothers across the nation. “A mother is our first teacher, doctor, guide and friend. Her love protects and strengthens us without conditions,” she said, adding a special acknowledgment to mothers who balance home and nation-building.

The Chief Minister concluded by reaffirming her government’s commitment to promoting public health, especially women’s wellness, and strengthening the role of women in India’s healthcare journey.
