Bomb Hoax On Bengaluru-Bound Karnataka Express Prompts Overnight Security Check; Train Delayed By 3 Hours
In the early hours of 11th May 2025, at approximately 01:05 am, Solapur Police City Control informed the Divisional Security Control Room (DSCR/SUR) about a distress call received on Dial 112. The caller alleged that a passenger in the rear general coach of Train No. 12628 was carrying a bomb in his bag. The mobile number of the complainant was also shared.
Upon receiving the alert, DSCR promptly relayed the information to GRP Control Bangalore, City & Rural Police Control Kalaburgi, and senior railway and police officials.
The train was scheduled to arrive at Wadi station at 01:21 am. Upon arrival, the coach in question was jointly attended by the Government Railway Police (GRP), City Police, and the Railway Protection Force (RPF). A thorough check of the rear general coach was conducted, but no suspicious object was found. Attempts to contact the complainant were unsuccessful as his phone was unreachable.
At 01:50 am DSC/Solapur Aditya reached Wadi station and personally supervised the operation. Using mobile tracking applications, the complainant was identified as . Deep Singh Rathore, a resident of Jalaun, Uttar Pradesh, travelling from New Delhi to Guntakal.
On being located in the general coach, Rathore informed the officials that he had suspected three fellow passengers of carrying narcotic or explosive substances and had therefore raised an alert via Dial 112. He further claimed that his mobile phone was briefly taken by the suspects but returned at Solapur station upon intervention by RPF personnel.
The three passengers, Ganesh Magar (Age 24), District Dadeldhura, Nepal, Mintu Kumar (Age 25), Darbhanga, Bihar, Shiv Thapa (Age 26), South Bengaluru, Karnataka were identified and taken off the train for questioning.
The trio alleged that Rathore was recording videos and photographs of their family, prompting them to temporarily take his phone to delete the content. They were travelling from New Delhi to Bengaluru.
At 02:25 am the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) from Kalaburgi, led by Sharanappa and sniffer dog ‘Rani’, conducted a detailed inspection of the coach in question. Subsequently, all coaches of the train were checked thoroughly. No explosive or suspicious materials were found. At 04:15 am, a “Safe Certificate” was issued by Bomb Detection & Disposal Squad (BDDS), confirming the train was secure. The train resumed its journey at 04:34 am
The operation was efficiently handled with the coordinated efforts of DSC /Solapur, Aditya, CPI, Raichur, Basavaraj Teli, PSI GRP Veerabhadrappa, PSI City Police Thirumalesh, Inspector Kalaburgi, Sub Inspector Wadi, and their teams. Deep Singh Rathore and the three individuals have been taken into custody by GRP for further investigation.
