Delhi Capitals’ Mitchell Starc Unlikely To Return For IPL 2025 Due To India-Pakistan Conflict
Delhi Capitals (DC) pacer Mitchell Starc is unlikely to return to India even if the suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season resumes. In fact, several top Australian players are expected to skip the remainder of the tournament, which was paused for a week on May 9 (Friday) due to rising cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.
As per a report by Australia’s 9News, Mitchell Starc did not address the media upon his arrival in Australia on May 11 , but his manager confirmed that the pace spearhead is unlikely to return to the IPL amid the ongoing conflict.
Delhi Capitals secured the Australian pacer for a hefty ₹11.75 crore at last year’s mega auction after he was released by defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders, despite being named Player of the Match in both Qualifier 1 and the final.
So far, Starc has played all 12 matches for DC this season, picking up 14 wickets.
Starc isn’t the only Australian whose IPL 2025 future is uncertain — Pat Cummins and Travis Head, both part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad that’s already out of playoff contention, are also likely to stay back in Australia to focus on preparations for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final at Lord’s starting June 11.
Gujarat Titans Resume Practice Amid IPL 2025 Resumption Uncertainty
With the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan in place, talks of IPL 2025 resumption are underway. While no official confirmation has been made from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the tournament could be resumed by May 16 (Friday) or May 17 (Saturday), as per ABP News sources.
Following the ceasefire, Gujarat Titans (GT) have resumed training even as uncertainty looms over the resumption of IPL 2025. The Shubman Gill-led Titans held an extended net session on Sunday evening (May 11).
For the unversed, the tournament was suspended for a week after Pakistan breached Indian airspace with drone and missile attacks, forcing organisers to pause proceedings.
