County Championship takes a dig at Virat Kohli following his Test retirement announcement, says ‘we don’t blame you’
Rohit Sharma’s recent Test retirement announcement has created significant uncertainty within the Indian cricket selection committee. Further complicating matters are reports, yet unconfirmed, suggesting Virat Kohli may also retire from Test cricket. This news has prompted criticism from former players and presents a considerable challenge for selectors in assembling the team for the upcoming five-Test series against England.
Before the India-England series, which begins June 20, the County Championship issued a pointed critique of Virat Kohli.
A short video showcasing wickets taken by English fast bowlers Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue during the County Championship was shared on X (formerly Twitter).
The video aimed to suggest Virat Kohli struggles against English fast bowlers in England.
Reports indicate that Virat Kohli has expressed his desire to retire from Test cricket and has informed the BCCI selection committee of his intention.
Despite reported attempts by a prominent Indian cricket figure to mediate, Virat Kohli remains steadfast in his position.
As per the Times of India, following Rohit Sharma’s Test retirement announcement, Virat Kohli remains firm in his decision to not reconsider his own retirement from Test cricket.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reportedly urged Virat Kohli to reconsider his decision to step down from the vice-captaincy of the ODI team, emphasizing his crucial role in India’s relatively inexperienced middle order. However, Kohli remains firm in his resolve.
“Kohli had informed the selectors two weeks ago about his desire to quit Tests. They were trying to persuade him to play in the Test series against England. However, he is still firm on his stance. The final call will come close to the selection meeting next week,” the paper quoted a source as saying.
