CM Rekha Gupta reviews key infrastructure projects in Delhi

As part of a major urban renewal initiative, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has ordered a comprehensive citywide cleanliness and desilting campaign across all 12 zones of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). The drive includes intensified night-time sweeping in busy market areas under the ongoing Mega Cleanliness Campaign.

The campaign, which commenced on May 1, is currently underway in 312 market zones, with the Chief Minister calling for “results beyond symbolism”. The MCD has been instructed to submit daily progress reports, with a strong emphasis on deep cleaning, drain desilting and visible enhancements in public hygiene.

“Cleanliness is not just about appearances — it directly affects the quality of life for our citizens,” Gupta said. She urged all departments to work in close coordination to ensure timely and effective outcomes.

In a recent high-level review meeting, the Chief Minister also directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to fast-track key infrastructure projects. These include slip road bridges over the Ghazipur Drain and Hindon Canal at Kondli Bridge, flyovers at Nand Nagri and Gagan Cinema Junction and the underpass at Loni Chowk. Swift progress was also sought on Mangal Pandey Marg.

Meanwhile, the Irrigation and Flood Control Department has been tasked with accelerating the desilting of major drains, removing floating waste and completing Q-net structures to enable smooth water flow. The department was also instructed to address waterlogging hotspots through regulator repairs, improved lighting in poorly lit areas and ensuring all water pumps are fully operational.

Additional directives included the immediate repair of potholes and paving of unpaved roads to help curb dust pollution across the capital.

“All departments have been directed to adhere to strict deadlines,” Gupta said. “Our goal is to build a clean, safe, and developed capital. ‘Viksit Delhi’ is not just a slogan — it is our commitment to transforming the city with lasting and visible improvements.”
