Training for Aapda Mitra volunteers held in Kurukshetra

The Kurukshetra district administration and the Department of Revenue and Disaster Management organised a training camp for the Aapda Mitra Volunteers in Kurukshetra on Monday.

The training camp was organised to check the preparedness and train volunteers, so that the volunteers would be aware of the precautions to be taken during the time of disasters.

District Revenue Officer (DRO) Chetna Choudhary said Aapda Mitra volunteers developed coordination between the administration and the citizens during any disaster. The disaster could come in the form of flood, fire, earthquake and air strike. To deal with these situations, Aapda Mitra volunteers could play an important role in spreading awareness among citizens and protect them. “We cannot prevent any disaster, but losses can be prevented by coming forward to help,” she said.

She was speaking during the training programme of Aapda Mitra volunteers organised at the new building of the Mini-Secretariat on Monday. In the programme, Aapda Mitra volunteers were trained by the Fire Department, Red Cross and Home Guard Department.

The DRO said, “At present, all conditions in the district are normal, but no one has any information about when and what kind of disaster will happen. In such a situation, we need to be alert and prepared. These volunteers will spread awareness among citizens and support them. Volunteers should share and implement guidelines of the administration and the government in society.” Retired DRO Rajbir Dhiman said in 2023, around 200 volunteers in the district were given disaster management training.
