Residents allege bias in laying sewerage at Sirsa colony
Residents of Preet Sagar Colony on Begu Road in the city have alleged that Public Health Department officials neglected their area while laying a sewer line. The issue has now reached the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), after repeated complaints went unheard.
Locals alleged that despite several appeals, officials laid sewer lines only for a few houses of their “favoured people”, ignoring the rest of the colony. As a result, residents have been facing sanitation issues. Earlier, Mandeep Singh, a whistle-blower and resident of Ward No. 11, along with others, had written to the Chief Minister, Cabinet Minister Anil Vij and various officials seeking action, but there was no response from their side.
Now, following their complaint, the Superintendent of Police (SP), ACB, Hisar, has written to the Chief Engineer, Public Health Department, on May 9, instructing him to take necessary action in this regard.
Several residents, including Savitri, Vinod Kumar, Sunita, Harpinder, Radha, Karan Singh and Jaswinder Kaur, pointed out that sewer line was laid in November 2024 only on a specific 33-foot-street from the main gate of Maharana Pratap Bhawan to Seth Nand Lal garden, while the rest of the colony was ignored.
An activist Indrajit Adhikari also attempted to uncover the truth by filing an RTI. However, instead of providing information, officials gave misleading responses or avoided giving answers. A complaint has been filed with the State Information Commission, where a hearing is scheduled for August 2025.
Adding to the frustration, residents said after they handed a written appeal to Sirsa MLA Gokul Setia, the department delivered pipes at the colony. But following new complaints, pipes were quietly removed from the colony. Residents demanded a complete sewerage for the entire colony and sought action against officials responsible for alleged misuse of power.
