PS Plus Extra May Free Games Expectations: EA FC 25, Borderlands, NBA 2K25 Among Top Contenders
PS Plus Free May Games: With the calendar inching closer to mid-May, anticipation is building among PlayStation fans for the next wave of PS Plus Extra and Premium game additions. Sony is expected to officially announce the May line-up on May 14, with the titles going live for download on May 20 across PS4 and PS5 consoles.
But before the curtain lifts, the gaming community is already buzzing with predictions — and some of them are starting to sound plausible.
Borderlands Universe May Re-emerge
Topping the speculation charts is a potential return to Pandora. With Borderlands 4 set to launch this September and a recent State of Play event spotlighting the franchise, fans believe publisher 2K might be teeing up a prequel of sorts on PS Plus Extra. Several predictions point to Borderlands 3, while others suggest New Tales from the Borderlands or the remastered Game of the Year Enhanced edition could land on the service.
The timing would make strategic sense — giving players a chance to revisit (or experience for the first time) the chaotic charm of the looter-shooter series before the next big instalment drops. The Reddit prediction thread has seen a wave of support for this theory.
EA FC 25 Could Capitalise on End-of-Season Momentum
Another frontrunner in the speculation race is EA FC 25. With the Premier League season wrapping up and physical/digital sales seeing a seasonal dip, dropping the game on PS Plus Extra in May would serve as a timely boost in visibility and player engagement.
Even if the football sim doesn't make the Extra cut, some fans believe it could pivot to the PS Plus Essentials tier in June instead.
Similarly, NBA 2K25 has been tipped as a strong possibility for May’s line-up. As the NBA season nears its dramatic playoff conclusion, interest in basketball games typically spikes, making it a logical choice. NHL 25 also appears in predictions, though with less frequency.
Long Shots and Fan Favourites Round Out the Wishlist
Beyond sports titles and Borderlands, the community’s wishlist is nothing short of ambitious. Atomic Heart, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Until Dawn Remastered, and Cuphead are all making rounds in discussion forums.
There’s also renewed interest in The Last of Us Part 2, likely due to the TV adaptation rekindling public interest. Other first-party hopefuls include LEGO Horizon, Horizon Forbidden West, and Gran Turismo 7.
Predictions become a full-blown buffet from there: from Little Nightmares and Resident Evil Village to Darkest Dungeon 2, Jusant, Sonic Superstars, Lies of P, and even GTA 5. Some fans are also rooting for less mainstream picks like Still Wakes the Deep, Indika, and Monster Hunter Stories.
And then, of course, there are the dream-tier names — those that would cause a full-on frenzy if they came true. These include Elden Ring, Final Fantasy 16, Star Wars Outlaws, Alan Wake 2, and Astro Bot. Though highly unlikely, fans can’t help but hope.
Come May 14, we’ll know which dreams become reality — and which go back to the vault.
