In a recent conversation on Bharti Singh and Harsh Limbachiyaa’s podcast, director Sajid Khan opened up about the biggest superstar of the 70s. He said it was not Amitabh Bachchan but another famous actor who ruled the screens. He claims that it was Dharmendra who had more popularity compared to Bachchan during the 70s.

Amitabh Bachchan was not a Superstar

When Bharti asked Sajid who was known as the biggest superstar of the 70s, Harsh raised his eyebrows and quickly took Amitabh Bachchan’s name. However, to both Bharti and Harsh’s surprise, Sajid Khan said, “If anyone was considered a blockbuster hero in the 70s, it was Dharmendra sahab at the box office.”

Talking about Amitabh Bachchan’s career, Sajid said, “Amitabh Bachchan’s stardom started in 1978, with Muqaddar Ka Sikandar.” The director continued and revealed that before that, Amitabh Bachchan was a star, not a superstar. On this, Harsh said that Bachchan was considered a star after Sholay, and Sajid immediately corrected him, saying, “He became a star after Sholay. He did not become a star even after Zanjeer.”

About Dharmendra

Also called the He-Man of Bollywood, Dharmendra made his debut in the year 1960 with Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere. Over the next few years, he became a part of hit projects such as Phool Aur Patthar, Anupama, Bandini, Aya Sawan Jhoom Ke, and more.
