Nicolas Cage returns as Spider-Man Noir in live-action 'Spider-Noir' series

Nicolas Cage is reprising his role as Spider-Man Noir in the upcoming live-action series titled Spider-Noir, premiering on MGM+ in 2026, before a global release on Amazon Prime Video. This also marks the character’s first live-action portrayal after Nicolas Cage’s voice role for the same character in the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018). With that film, Cage’s character became a fan favourite because of the character’s easy blend of classic superhero persona and vintage detective tropes.
The first look poster features Spider-Man Noir in his iconic black-and-white suit and the detective hat. The story is set in 1930s New York, where he is an ageing private detective who must face his past as the city’s only superhero. The production even aims to capture the soul of classic Noir films by providing options to stream the series in both colour and black and white formats.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Cage stated, “It’s a character that lends itself to channelling some of my favourite noir movie stars. Spider-Man, for me, is the coolest superhero. I think to have that combined with a noir, like 1930s golden age movie star attitude, makes it one of the most exciting of all the superhero characters.”
The cast includes Lamorne Morris as a practical-minded journalist Robbie Robertson and Brenden Gleeson as a mob boss, along with Li Jun Li and Abraham Popoola in notable roles.
The series is directed by Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, with Emmy winner Harry Bradbeer directing the first two episodes. The executive producers include Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who were the driving force behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse. The panel also sees the involvement of Amy Pascal, who has been part of nearly every single Spider-Man movie and related spin-off movies since the start.
According to CNN, Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures, praised Nicolas Cage as Spider Noir and said, “No one else could bring such pathos, pain, and heart to this singular character”.
