Mumbai: 18-Year-Old Woman's Private Photos Leaked Online; Case Registered Under IT Act In Powai
Mumbai: In a disturbing case of digital violation and defamation, private photos and videos of an 18-year-old woman were leaked and circulated on social media, allegedly with the intent to publicly humiliate her. The Powai police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and for defamation against an unidentified accused.
Intimate Photos Uploaded On Victim's Instagram Account
The young woman, a resident of Sakinaka and daughter of a real estate businessman, was horrified to discover her intimate content had been uploaded on her own Instagram account on Saturday around 11 am. The matter came to light when her brother noticed the objectionable posts and confronted her. Upon checking, she realised that private moments shared with her ex-boyfriend had been made public without her consent.
According to the police, the complainant had been in a relationship in the past during which the two had clicked some personal photos and recorded videos. The relationship ended a few months ago, and they were no longer in contact. Cops suspect someone accessed her account and uploaded the old content with malicious intent.
Case Filed At Powai Police Station
The victim approached the Powai police station and lodged a formal complaint. Acting swiftly, the police registered a case under the Information Technology Act for unauthorised access and circulation of private material and also under charges related to defamation.
According to a Lokmat Times report quoting sources within the police department confirmed that the woman’s former boyfriend will be questioned in connection with the leak. Cops are trying to determine if he had retained the media and whether he might have shared it with others who could have made it viral.
