According to Superintendent of Police Anuj Tare, the root of the violence was a minor personal dispute that occurred around midnight at Patni Chowk, where one individual injured another. However, the situation quickly escalated after rumours began circulating within the community, triggering violent reactions, including stone-throwing between two groups. The police, having received early warnings, swiftly reached the spot and dispersed the crowds before the situation spiralled further. SP Tare confirmed that FIRs have been registered in connection with the incident.

6 Suspects In Custody, Police Tracking Others

Authorities have so far identified 20 to 25 individuals believed to be involved in the violence, based on CCTV footage and other videos. Of these, six suspects are already in custody. A manhunt is underway to apprehend the remaining accused. Continuous police patrolling has been initiated across the town to prevent further flare-ups.

Stone-Pelting Reported In Surrounding Areas

While the exact cause of the clash remains unconfirmed, the violence began in Patni Chowk and soon spread to neighbouring localities such as Bagwanpura, Dande Chowk and Ganeshpeth, reported Lokmat Times. Around 11 pm, groups of miscreants reportedly hurled stones at residential buildings and vehicles. Several individuals sustained injuries during these attacks and were admitted to the district hospital for treatment. Multiple two-wheelers were also damaged or vandalized during the unrest.

Upon learning about the escalating situation, SP Anuj Tare personally visited the affected areas and took charge of controlling the chaos. A substantial police force has since been deployed throughout Washim town to maintain order and prevent further disturbances. Authorities have appealed to the public to stay calm, avoid circulating unverified information, and refrain from giving in to provocation.

While the immediate danger has been curbed, a palpable sense of unease lingers in the city. Cops remain on high alert to ensure the safety of residents and to respond swiftly to any potential developments. The administration continues to monitor the situation closely and has reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and communal harmony in the region.
