Reaping political dividends: BJP to hold tiranga yatras to drum up nationalistic fervour after Operation Sidoor

A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address to the nation on Operation Sindoor and the military stand-off that followed, he flew to Adampur Airbase in Jalandhar to be with the Indian Air Force personnel to boost their morale. The military engagement may be over, but the core message of Operation Sidoor—that India will not tolerate terrorism— as articulated by Modi will now be carried to the people by the BJP.

The BJP will organise nationwide tiranga yatras to drum up nationalistic fervour after the ceasefire with Pakistan. In the states where BJP is in power, tiranga yatras will be carried out at the state level with the participation of the army men.

The party said the yatras will not be limited to its workers but will also witness the participation of intelligentsia, youth, ex-servicemen and social media influencers.

After the Pahalgam attack, the political class rallied behind the armed forces, echoing the message of strong action against the perpetrators and Pakistan. However, after the announcement of the ceasefire and that too by US President Donald Trump, the opposition parties are raising questions over the involvement of a third party. They have demanded a special session of the Parliament to discuss the situation.

The BJP is pushing ahead with a massive outreach programme for the next 10 days to hardsell the victories of the war.

As Modi had said India has only paused its counteroffensive and would keep Pakistan under strict watch in days to come, the government and the party would like to keep the people constantly informed and updated. The issue of Indus Water Treaty, where India has held it in abeyance and stopped water flow to the neighbouring country, may again pose a challenge in the coming days.

PM Modi is expected to travel to Bihar later this month for a progamme where he is also expected to address a rally. It was during a rally in Bihar, two days after the Pahalgam attack on April 22, that he had vowed action against Pakistan. When he returns to Bihar, which goes to polls in October-November, Modi may tell the people that he has delivered on his promise.
