Liverpool have reportedly entered into an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for Dutch right winger Jeremie Frimpong who has a contract till 2030. The English club is planning to trigger his €40 million release clause from Bayer Leverkusen to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is set to move to Real Madrid as a free agent.
Jeremie Frimpong is one of Liverpool’s prime targets this summer transfer window. A few weeks ago, his agent said that he is planning to move this summer and also shared an Instagram story, giving hints about the Frimpong’s potential move to Liverpool.
Despite the absence of Trent Alexander-Arnold in the right full-back position, Liverpool had a good run this season with Conor Bradley, who has better defensive awareness (average tackles, interceptions, clearings, recoveries per game) than Arnold, who is usually noted for his attacking stats and pin-point crossing. In the England team, Arnold mainly plays as a holding midfielder or creative midfielder.
The club already has a perfect young backup for Trent Alexander-Arnold in Bradley. Last year, Liverpool officials said that they are looking for a backup for Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian striker turns 33 this June and his contract will end in 2027. Frimpong’s heat map is similar to Salah. So, Liverpool are also looking at Frimpong as a backup for Salah. He has played as a right winger in the Netherlands team and his speed was a major factor in Bayer Leverkusen’s counter-attacks.
Liverpool already have youngsters including Harvey Elliott, Conor Bradley, Kaide Gordon, Bobby Clark and Trey Nyoni, in every position. The Scousers expect Frimpong to be a key player in Dutch tactician Arne Slot’s strategies.
