Chamba gears up for monsoon

A review meeting on disaster preparedness and management was held in Chamba on Tuesday, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal, to assess the availability and readiness of essential disaster response equipment and resources at the sub-divisional level across the district.

In view of Chamba’s high vulnerability to natural disasters, particularly during the monsoon season, the DC directed all Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to carry out inspection of available disaster management equipment in coordination with departmental officers concerned. He instructed them to prepare detailed requisition lists to facilitate timely procurement and ensure readiness.

To improve the efficiency of disaster response operations, the DC stressed the optimal utilisation and distribution of equipment. He directed that essential tools be allocated based on departmental expertise among Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), Station House Officers (SHOs) and the Fire Services Department.

“Given Chamba’s high sensitivity to natural calamities, it is crucial that every sub-divisional administrative vehicle is equipped with essentials such as first aid kits, megaphones and searchlights,” Repaswal stated.

The meeting also discussed the need to establish video conferencing facilities at the sub-divisional level to enable better coordination and real-time communication during emergencies. Superintendent of Police Abhishek Yadav, Additional District Magistrate Bharmour and the SDMs of Bhattiyat, Tissa and Dalhousie participated in the meeting virtually.
