4 missing employees of truck agency found dead in canal
In a tragic incident, four employees of Bharat Automobiles, a truck agency in Sangala village, who had left for pilgrimage to Haridwar three days ago, were found dead in the Kotla branch of the Sirhind Canal at Jaure Pul on the Malerkotla-Khanna road on Tuesday.
The Amargarh police, led by DSP Davinder Singh Sandhu, claimed to have recovered the bodies of the victims within a day of receipt of information from their employers.
The deceased were identified as Gagandeep Singh (24) of Ghanaur Jattan village of Samana, Gopal Krishan (29), Jatinder Chaudhary (39) and Sujal Malik (19), residents of Rajasthan.
Investigation revealed that the victims had left their residences in a car on Saturday for visiting Haridwar.
However, they went missing and their mobile phones went out of reach shortly after their departure.
Having received information about the missing of the four employees of a truck agency, police officials at Himtana Chowk initiated a probe into the matter under the supervision of Amargarh DSP Davinder Singh Sandhu.
It was on the basis of last calls made on mobiles of the victims that the police traced them near the Jaure Pul.
It was in the afternoon that the police found their car in the canal during a rescue operation and recovered the bodies of the victims from the vehicle.
Though the exact reason behind the tragedy is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the driver might have lost control over the vehicle near the bridge and it plunged into the canal after breaking the railing.
Bodies of the victims were handed over to their kin after completing inquest proceedings in the evening on Tuesday.
