EAM Jaishankar's Security To Be Upgraded Amid India-Pak Tensions, Will Get Bulletproof Car
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is likely to get a security upgrade after a request by the Ministry of External Affairs amid the rising hostilities between India and Pakistan along the Line of Control. A special bulletproof car is likely to be added to his security detail.
As per multiple media reports, the Delhi Police has urged the Union Home Ministry to conduct a threat assessment. The police are likely to increase the number of spotters outside the Union Minister’s residence and office, an escort car and a new call sign for him.
Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora held a meeting with senior officers on security for VIPs who spoke out publicly against Pakistan, particularly on social media, after the Indian armed forces's strikes on terror camps in Pakistan.
The minister has Z category security cover of the CRPF, which includes six gunmen for mobile security, and 10 more for residence security. Earlier, he was secured with the Z-plus cover.
Other than Jaishankar, the Delhi Police is also reviewing the security cover for Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, reports added.
What Is Z-Plus Security?
Z-plus security is the highest level of security protection after the SPG cover. It includes 55 personnel, along with CRPF commandos, who provide 24x7 protection. Additional protection in the form of National Security Guard (NSG) commandos is also given if the need is felt, based on intelligence inputs. The security cover also includes a bulletproof vehicle and escort in three shifts.
CRPF's VIP security cover has about 200 protectees at present, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Many actors have also been given security cover by the force.
