Five Boys Drown In Andhra Pradesh's Kadapa Pond, Ex-CM Jagan Expresses Grief

In Mallepally village of Brahmamgari Matham mandal in Kadapa district, five young boys drowned while playing in a pond on Tuesday afternoon. The victims, all relatives and aged between 10 and 15, were identified as Charan (15), Parthu (12), Harsh (12), Deekshit (12), and Tarun Yadav (10).

All Bodies Recovered

According to Mydukuru Sub-Divisional Police Officer Rajendra Prasad, the incident occurred around 3 PM, when the boys ventured into the pond during a visit to their maternal grandmother’s home for summer holidays.

“They were playing in the pond. Up to 200 metres from the banks it is only waist deep. But suddenly it becomes 12 ft to 13 ft deep. Once they went there they found it difficult to swim,” Prasad told PTI.

When the children failed to return home, their worried family members began searching for them. Upon reaching the pond, they found the boys’ clothes near the water but no sign of the children. A frantic search ensued, and all five bodies were recovered around 11 PM that night.

The authorities have registered a case and begun post-mortem procedures. Police and local officials are working to support the grieving families, with the community in shock over the sudden loss of five young lives.

Meanwhile. former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed shock and sorrow over the tragedy, describing it as “deeply distressing”. He called on the state government to extend prompt assistance to the affected families.
