Release of Anushka Sharma's 'Chakda ‘Xpress' remains uncertain. Here's what happened so far

The release of Anushka Sharma-starrer Chakda ‘Xpress, written by Abhishek Banerjee and directed by Prosit Roy, which was scheduled to release in October 2023 before the World Cup, still remains delayed. Based on the life of Jhulan Goswami, former Indian cricketer and one of the fastest bowlers of all time, the film was supposed to mark the acting comeback of Anushka Sharma after Zero (2018).
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, the film's editor Manas Mittal and writer Abhishek Banerjee revealed that the release was set to coincide with the World Cup, however, no information regarding the promotions or release of the film were informed by the team. “It became evident that the release wasn’t happening. Since then, there has been complete silence”, said Mittal.
Meanwhile, Jhulan Goswami told Hindustan Times, "I don't have any news on it, but everyone's calling me. I don't wish to make any comment."
The film's first shooting schedule was set in April 2020, but was forced to halt due to the pandemic. In 2022, the film’s release format was changed to OTT viewing, for a Netflix. However, as per recent reports, the misunderstandings between Netflix and Clean State Filmz resulted in the release uncertainty.
Clean State Filmz is a production company started by Anushka Sharma and her brother Karnesh Sharma. But Anushka Sharma stepped away from running the company in 2022 was followed by Netflix parting ways with the banner. While there are rumours on budget issues and creative disagreements surrounding the film, there hasn’t been any official statements from the team.
The film is directed by Prosit Roy, and produced by Karnesh Sharma under Clean State Filmz. It stars Anushka Sharma, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Renuka Shahane, Anshul Chauhan, Koushik Sen and Mahesh Thakur.
