IMD Dismisses Cyclone Rumors in Bay of Bengal

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has quashed rumors of a cyclone forming over the Bay of Bengal.
The IMD said that that no cyclonic system is currently developing and no warnings have been issued.
Speculative reports, some naming a potential “Cyclone Shakti” between May 23 and 28, have sparked public concern. However, the IMD stated that weather models show no evidence of such a system.
The IMD further said that it is closely monitoring conditions, but there is no data supporting cyclone formation at this time.
The department urged media to refrain from spreading unverified claims that could incite panic. Official updates will be shared only through authorized IMD bulletins, it added.
The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre also clarified that Odisha faces no cyclone threat presently.
