Illegal LPG refilling unit busted at Daria

The Operations Cell of the UT police has busted an illegal LPG cylinder-refilling unit at Daria village here with the arrest of eight persons.

The raid, conducted by a team led by Inspector Ranjit Singh of the Operations Cell, followed a tip-off received by a team while patrolling the vicinity of Makhan Majra. The police were informed that some persons were operating an unauthorised LPG-refilling unit in Daria village.

The police raided the location and found eight men illegally refilling gas from domestic cylinders into commercial ones. They were not adhering to basic safety measures while refilling the cylinders in the residential area, thereby putting themselves as well as local residents at risk. The suspects have been identified as Gagandeep Singh, Rajesh, Vineet, Arjun, Deepak, Murari, Ranjit Singh and Arjun Kumar.

A case has been registered under Section 287 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act.

The police have recovered 545 LPG cylinders, both domestic and commercial ones, 24 pump/refilling motors and three electronic weighing machines worth Rs 17.5 lakh.

The refilled cylinders were sold at inflated rates across the tricity.

Recently, two children were injured while illegally transferring gas from one cylinder to another in Mauli Jagran here.

Further investigation is underway to identify more accomplices and suppliers.

Meanwhile, SP Geetanjali Khandelwal praised the swift and coordinated response of her team Such illegal and unsafe activities pose a grave threat to public safety and will not be tolerated, she said.
