HPU team inspects Chamba college for MBA, MCA courses

An inspection team of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Shimla on Wednesday visited Government Post Graduate College, Chamba, to explore possibilities to launch new academic courses.

The HPU is in the process of introducing professional courses — MBA (Master of Business Administration) and MCA (Master of Computer Applications) — at Chamba college from the academic session 2025-26.

The committee comprised senior faculty members, subject experts and administrative representatives. Among the key members of the team were Prof SS Narta, a nominee of the Vice-Chancellor and expert in MBA and Prof Jawahar Thakur, an expert in MCA.

The team evaluated the availability of infrastructure, teaching resources, library and laboratory facilities, IT resources and human resources required for running the proposed programmes. They also held detailed discussions with the college principal, faculty members and student representatives and gave a positive response to the proposal submitted by the college.

Following the inspection, the team held a meeting with the college administration to discuss all necessary aspects related to the proposed courses. They provided constructive suggestions, which will need to be implemented before the university grants final approval.

On this occasion, Principal of Chamba College Dr Madan Guleria, expressed his gratitude to the university and the inspection team. He stated that the introduction of MBA and MCA courses in a remote region like Chamba would provide quality higher education opportunities to local students within their own district and contribute to regional development.

Dr Guleria further said along with MBA and MCA, the college is also preparing to launch MCom and MA in Sociology from the upcoming academic session. The university is currently completing all formalities and inspection procedures for the same.

The final decision on the launch of these courses will be taken by the university based on the inspection report, he said. Present during the inspection were Prof Parvinder Kumar, Dr Chaman Singh, Dr Shelly Mahajan, Dr Vijay Kumar and Dr Virender Singh among others.
