Pakistan lacks credibility

Pakistan lacks credibility

Apropos of ‘No going back from the new normal’; India is right in calling Pakistan’s bluff of using nuclear weapons. When two countries permanently at loggerheads are nuclear powers, such a threat makes no sense. Pakistan can make any false claim, supported by its doctored videos of attacking Indian sites to counter Operation Sindoor, for the consumption of its locals. Many in Pakistan still believe that it had won the 1965 war, whereas at the time of announcement of the ceasefire, the Indian army was on the verge of capturing Lahore. PM Modi’s statement that every terror attack in India, aided and abetted by Pakistan, will be treated as an ‘act of war’ means that India will have to remain vigilant like Israel all the time.

Be responsible deshbhakts

With reference to ‘Social media warriors join ranks of useful idiots’; Operation Sindoor brought together Indians from all walks of life, transcending barriers of caste, creed and religion. However, the trolling of Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, a dedicated bureaucrat who was performing his duties with utmost devotion, was unwarranted and condemnable. We must recognise and appreciate the selfless service of such individuals. As we move forward, let us resolve to fight the “enemies within” who spread hatred and divisiveness. We must work together to build a harmonious society. By acknowledging our unity in diversity, let us strive to be more responsible deshbhakts.

Snub social media warriors

Apropos of ‘Social media warriors join ranks of useful idiots’; these digital activists think themselves to be above the law and do not hesitate from using unparliamentary and abusive language. Their arrogance did not stop them from trolling Pahalgam victim Vinay Narwal’s widow Himanshi and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, who laboured day and night to keep us informed regarding the developments in the India-Pak conflict. These media marauders should be snubbed strongly. They are the ones who polarise communities.

Make bunkers at strategic points

Apropos of ‘The strategic logic behind India’s ceasefire with Pakistan’; the supposedly ‘brokered’ ceasefire between India and Pakistan is just an interlude in a renewed phase of hostilities between the neighbours. India should not lower its guard but rather embark upon long-term investments for augmenting its defences. This could involve creating a network of temporary and permanent shelters and bunkers at strategic locations throughout the country and educating the public through nationwide mock drills. Pakistan will undoubtedly utilise the lessons learnt in this skirmish to plug loopholes in its defence arsenal. The next conflict could be more intense; therefore, India needs to be well-prepared.

Bolster fighter squadron strength

Refer to ‘Air superiority’; the professional approach, precision and accuracy of the Indian Air Force were on display during Operation Sindoor. The air dominance and attack-at-will on selected locations without any resistance from Pakistan made the opponent beg for a ceasefire. But the inadequate fighter squadron strength vis-à-vis the authorised number for a two-front war may be a matter of concern during long-standing conflicts. Through the demonstration of its capabilities, the IAF has sent a stern message to its adversaries. The positive approach of the government and the synergy among the Indian armed forces led to a successful operation.

Excise Dept failure in Majitha

The death of 21 persons in Majitha should be termed as murder and not ‘death by negligence’. The government does have a mechanism to check the process of manufacturing and bottling of licensed alcohol. The daily supply of raw materials and the final products are supposed to be monitored by Excise Department officials. Despite a system of checks and balances, there has been inhuman negligence that would not have been possible without the collusion of inspectors and the unscrupulous elements, who are out to make easy money.
