App training organised for police to streamline road accident reporting

To ensure faster and more transparent reporting of road accidents, a training programme was conducted in Dabwali to introduce the e-Detailed Accident Report (e-DAR) mobile app and web portal. Developed under the Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) project, the app aims to streamline accident data collection and expedite compensation processes for the families of victims.

Officials from the National Informatics Centre (NIC) conducted the session, offering detailed guidance to station house officers, investigating officers and computer operators from the Police Department. Sanjay, District Rollout Manager from NIC, explained that the e-DAR app enables police officials to immediately record accident details at the scene using their mobile devices. The app requires uploading photographs, videos and all other relevant information concerning the incident.

He further stated that the system requires coordination among multiple departments, including the Health Department, Transport Department and Public Works Department or NHAI. This integrated model is designed not only to document accidents efficiently but also to identify their root causes, which can support the implementation of improved road safety measures in future.

District Informatics Officer Sikander emphasised that this initiative is part of a central government effort led by the Ministry of Road Transport. The objective is to build a comprehensive national database of road accidents, enabling authorities to devise better prevention strategies.
