Mumbai Coastal Road Project Nears Completion With Final Arm Opening At Haji Ali

The final arm of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP), connecting Worli and Marine Drive and ending at Lotus Jetty, is set to open, marking the completion of Haji Ali Interchange with all eight vehicular arms operational.

The BMC has also proposed a four-level underground parking facility at Haji Ali, with a capacity of over 1,100 cars, and has commissioned Larsen & Toubro to design the project.

About The Mumbai Coastal Road Project

The MCRP features multi-level interchanges at key locations – Haji Ali, Pedder Road (Amarsons Garden) and Worli Sea Face – with four arms at Pedder Road, eight at Haji Ali and six at Worli.

“The final arm, number 7 at Haji Ali, will ease travel from Baroda Palace to Lotus Jetty. Our work is complete, we have informed traffic police and are waiting for their approval,” a BMC official said.

In line with Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s directives, the BMC has proposed building a helipad at the existing Worli Jetty, opposite Worli Dairy, as part of a larger multimodal transport vision. Pawan Hans Ltd, a Government of India enterprise, has recently cleared the feasibility for constructing a medium-sized helipad at the site.

“Discussions with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation are underway. A consultant will soon be appointed to obtain mandatory clearances from civil defence and the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests,” the official said.
