20 Injured After Sewage Tank Explodes At Factory In Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore, Homes Damaged
At least 20 people were injured after a sewage tank at a private factory exploded late last night in the Kudikadu area near Mudhunagar in Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore district. The blast triggered widespread flooding in nearby villages as contaminated water gushed into residential areas, damaging several homes.
Eyewitnesses reported a loud explosion followed by a torrent of sewage water that rapidly inundated homes in the vicinity forcing residents to flee. Emergency response teams were deployed to the scene and the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
S Jeyakumar, Cuddalore SP told ANI, "Today, around 3 am, an explosion took place at one of the dyeing units, a tank with a capacity of 2.5 lakh litres, exploded in that. The hot water fell on some residential houses, and 4-5 houses were damaged, and around 25 people sustained minor injuries. There is no major loss or injuries...we are assessing the situation...all precaution measures have been taken...we are monitoring the situation..."

Authorities have launched a formal investigation to identify the cause of the explosion and assess both infrastructural damage and environmental hazards. Preliminary reports suggest that pressure buildup in the sewage tank may have triggered the incident.
Local residents have raised concerns over safety standards at industrial units in the area, calling for stricter regulatory oversight.
