The vessel had departed from the Mangaluru Port on May 12. It was enroute to Kadmat Island in Lakshadweep, when flooding began at 5:30 AM on May 14, which is believed to be the reason behing its eventual sinking. However, the exact cause of flooding remains unknown, news agency ANI reported, citing Indian Coast Guard statement.

In its statement, the ICG said that the survivors were administered first aid and transported safely to New Mangalore Port following their successful rescue. They arrived at the port on May 15.
Local authorities will conduct further interviews with the rescued crew in order to ascertain the circumstances that might have caused the vessel to sink.
