Have zeroed in on assailants, close to cracking case: Police

A day after unidentified persons fired gunshots at the house of Punjabi music producer Pushpinder Dhaliwal, aka Pinky Dhaliwal, in Sector 71 here, the police today claimed to have zeroed in on two bike-borne suspects. The cops said they were very close to cracking the case.

Addressing mediapersons, Mohali SP (City) Sirivennela said the two assailants were riding a bike bearing a UP registration number. They fired around eight gunshots at the house before dropping a threat letter.

“A threat letter purportedly from the jailed gangster Kala Rana of Yamunanagar has been recovered, but there is no mention of ransom money. The two suspects had committed a similar crime at an immigration firm recently,” said a source, adding that personal rivalry and extortion angle was also being probed. The music producer had received threat calls earlier also, added the source.

Mohali SSP Harmandeep Hans, senior police officials and CIA Staff inspected the spot around 1am, but left without speaking to the media. Dhaliwal’s family also maintained a silence over the incident.

A few windowpanes were broken and there were bullet marks on the walls of the corner house after the late night firing. The sources said Dhaliwal was out of the country when the incident took place.

The police recovered the empty shells from the road in front of the house.

“The miscreants have been caught on CCTV cameras and will be arrested soon. The police are working on the entry and exit routes of the suspects and traced these till Zirakpur,” said the sources.

An attempt-to-murder case along with sections of the Arms Act has been registered at the Mataur police station.
