Woman among two nabbed with 1.5 kg heroin
The Gharinda police have arrested two drug peddlers, including a woman, and recovered 1.5 kg of heroin from their possession.
They were identified as Balbir Kaur and Amritpal Singh, alias Kaka, of Dhanoe Khurd village. Their third accomplice Sahibdeep Singh, alias Sabu, has been absconding since the incident. Raids were on to nab him, said the police.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Lakhwinder Singh Kaler said the police got a tip-off that Sahibdeep, Amritpal and Balbir Kaur were involved in drug trafficking. He said following this, a police team laid a naka near the defence drain ahead of the barbed fence. The police team saw the three coming towards them on a motorcycle and signalled them to stop.
However, they tried to slip away from the scene, but during this, Balbir Kaur fell off the bike. The police seized the contraband from her possession. Her disclosure led to the arrest of Amritpal Singh and efforts are on to arrest Sahibdeep Singh.
A case under the NDPS Act was registered with the Gharinda police in this regard while further investigation is in progress to ascertain the source of heroin and their backward and forward linkages.
