India Plans Water Strike Against Pakistan Amid Indus Treaty Suspension; Mehbooba Mufti Criticized

Amid escalating tensions with Pakistan, India is intensifying action under its "Water Strike" policy by suspending parts of the Indus Water Treaty. This move follows Pakistan's continued support for terrorism. In response, India is advancing dam projects and water utilization plans across Jammu and Kashmir’s rivers—Chenab, Jhelum, and Ravi. While India's military asserts dominance along the LoC, political debate is rising at home. Former Jammu & Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti criticized the suspension of the treaty, calling it "unfortunate" and advocating dialogue with Pakistan. However, the central government has made its stance clear: national security and strategic interest come first. To counter losses from the treaty, India is expanding canal networks and upgrading existing projects like Baglihar, Kishanganga, Salal, Dul Hasti, and Uri. Plans are underway to increase water usage fourfold, develop inland water transport, and build new barrages to raise water levels, particularly along the Jhelum river, where navigation is currently restricted.Jammu & Kashmir’s administration has signed a MoU with the central government to develop internal water transport across the three rivers. This strategic shift will not only boost power generation but also limit Pakistan’s access to river waters. India’s message is clear: “Blood and water cannot flow together.”
