Thane Crime: State Excise Department Seizes 800 Boxes Of Goa-Made Liquor Worth ₹63 Lakh; 1 Arrested
Thane: The state Excise Department has confiscated 800 boxes of Indian Made Foreign Liquor and a six-wheeler tempo worth over Rs 63 lakh in Thane on Friday. The driver has been identified as Julfekar TajAli Chaudhary. An official from the Excise Department said that they received reliable information that a tempo carrying country-made foreign liquor would be coming from Goa to Thane.
Thereafter, they informed their senior officials about it. They formed a team and laid a trap on Mumbra Road near Amit Garden on Friday. Upon intercepting the tempo and checking it, they discovered 800 boxes of liquor. According to officials, they seized 800 boxes of different brands that were manufactured in Goa and the tempo worth Rs 63 lakh.
Pravin Tambe, Superintendent of the State Excise Department, Thane, said, "Based on a tip-off, our team intercepted a tempo and found 800 boxes of country-made foreign liquor containing 38,400 bottles worth Rs 50 lakh. We arrested the driver. Now, we are attempting to determine from whose person it was brought and who the purchase in Thane were. The accused was produced in court and remanded into police custody for further investigation."
