Born into a family in Gwalior, Dev Tomar’s success story is inspiring. His grandfather was once counted among the dacoits of the Chambal region, a legacy that brought Dev harsh criticism and taunts from society. People even went so far as to say, “A dacoit’s grandson will never amount to anything.” But Dev proved them wrong, showing that a person’s identity is not defined by their past, but by their actions.

Dev’s grandfather, Ramgovind Singh Tomar, was once involved in banditry in the tough terrains of Chambal. But things took a different turn with Dev’s father, Balveer Singh Tomar. He focused on education, earned a PhD in Sanskrit, and worked as a school principal. It was his father’s support and belief in him that motivated Dev to aim high and make his family proud.

Dev took admission at the Indian Institute of Technology(IIT), one of India’s premier institutes. Going by the media reports, Dev worked as a scientist at the headquarters of Philips, a renowned multinational company in the Netherlands. If media reports are to be believed, Dev’s annual salary was around Rs 88 lakh. However, Dev had a different vision for his life.

Choosing purpose over prestige, Dev Tomar left behind the comfort of the corporate world to pursue his true calling: serving the nation through the UPSC civil services. Dev made a total of six attempts, reaching the mains stage four times and the interview stage three times. Despite repeated setbacks and disappointments, Dev never gave up. He regained his hope. In 2025, Dev Prabhaker Singh Tomar secured All India Rank(AIR) 629.

Dev belonged to the EWS Category. Speaking of his UPSC marks, Dev secured 733 marks in the written examination. He scored 193 marks in the personality test. Overall, he scored 926 marks. He obtained AIR 629 in the Civil Services(Main) Examination 2024.
