Army jawan cremated with full military honours in Charkhi Dadri
The mortal remains of Lance Naik Manoj Phogat who died of gunshot injury during his posting in Kapurthala in Punjab was cremated with full military honours at his native Samsapur village in Charkhi Dadri district today. He was posted in the Grenadier unit in Kapurthala, Punjab, and was martyred after being shot on the Punjab border.
His mortal remains reached his native village today where a large number of villagers gathered to pay their last respects to the brave soldier.
In a heart-wrenching yet proud moment, his 5-year-old son Prince saluted his father and lit the funeral pyre. The village resonated with chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Shaheed Amar Rahein” during the final rites.
Manoj had just returned to duty on May 4 after a short leave when the incident occurred. He was the only son and his father and sister have also passed away.
According to information, 34-year-old Manoj Phogat, son of Ranbir Singh, is survived by his mother Santosh Devi, wife Rekha and two children.
Prominent political leaders including Haryana’s Irrigation Minister Shruti Chaudhry, Bhiwani-Mahendragarh MP Dharambir Singh, Dadri MLA Suneel Sangwan attended the last rites. His mother, Santosh Devi, expressed her grief and pride by saying, “It is the dream of every soldier to sacrifice his life for the country. I am proud that he has died for the motherland.”
