Shashi Tharoor to Lead US Mission on Terror; Govt Sends 7-MP Delegation to Expose Pakistan Globally
India is launching a major global diplomatic mission to expose Pakistan’s role in sponsoring terrorism, especially after the success of Operation Sindoor. The Modi government has formed a 7-member, all-party delegation of MPs who will visit key countries and highlight both the operation’s success and Pakistan’s duplicity. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is set to lead the US-bound delegation, while BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad may lead the Middle East mission. Other members include DMK’s Kanimozhi, NCP’s Supriya Sule (for South Africa, Kenya, and Mauritius), Sanjay Jha (Japan and Malaysia), and Shrikant Shinde (UAE and African nations). This move is seen as India’s attempt to internationalize the Kashmir issue on its own terms, countering earlier Pakistani propaganda. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju had reached out to Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, requesting names for participation. However, Shashi Tharoor's inclusion has sparked dissent within Congress. Jairam Ramesh indirectly criticized Tharoor, saying “there’s a big difference between being in Congress and being of Congress,” highlighting internal rifts. Tharoor reportedly accepted the government’s request without consulting party leadership, intensifying Congress's unease.Meanwhile, sources close to Salman Khurshid claim that the government had approached him as well, indicating a wider outreach. The diplomatic initiative is also being seen as a proactive strategy to neutralize Pakistani General Asim Munir’s alleged global anti-India campaign following the Pahalgam airstrike.
