India hits MASSIVE Jackpot, discovers treasure that could Win India future wars, Pakistan, China on backfoot, now plans to…
PL-15 Missile: In a major development, debris from China’s advanced PL-15 missile was recently found on Indian soil, which has alerted intelligence agencies around the world. This comes following Operation Sindoor and amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
Fragments of the PL-15E missile were recovered by Indian authorities in a field in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur on 9th May. During the press briefing on 12 May, Air Marshal Bharti revealed that Pakistan used advanced weaponry, including the Chinese PL-15E air-to-air missile to hit targets in India. However, India’s integrated air defence system, including the S-400 and Akaash Teer systems, succeeded in intercepting them before they could hit their targets.
Here are some of the key details:
- This is the same missile that Pakistan fired at India from the Chinese-supplied J-10C and JF-17 fighter jets, but the Indian Air Force shot it down.
- Its debris has been found in Hoshiarpur, Punjab
- The ‘Five Eyes’ group — comprising the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, want the wreckage of the PL-15 air-to-air missile fired by Pakistan.
- Along with these countries, France and Japan are also requesting pieces of this missile so they can decode China’s military technology.
- Experts believe that by analyzing this missile, the Five Eyes can gain a deep understanding of China’s guidance systems, electronic warfare, and engineering.
WHAT IS PL-15 MISSILE?
- The PL-15, known as “Thunderbolt-15,” is a long-range, beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile (BVRAAM) developed by China’s 607 Institute
- PL-15 is manufactured by the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC).
- PL-15 is designed to give Chinese and allied air forces-including Pakistan-a decisive edge in air superiority by engaging enemy aircraft at distances well beyond visual range.
- The PL-15 features a dual-pulse solid-propellant rocket motor, allowing it to reach speeds exceeding Mach 5.
- The domestic Chinese version boasts a range of 200–300 km, while the export variant used by Pakistan, the PL-15E, has a declared maximum range of 145 km, though operational factors may reduce this to 100–120 km depending on the launch platform.
The PL-15 is a long-range air-to-air missile developed by China, designed to engage enemy aircraft at extended ranges. It is an active radar-guided beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile, part of a new generation of Chinese weaponry that showcases the country’s increasing sophistication in military technology, particularly in air combat.
