Not Shubman Gill or KL Rahul, Ishant Sharma picks THIS star as Test captain for India in England, his name is…..

New Delhi: After Rohit Sharma’s recent retirement from Test cricket, the question has now arisen as to who will be India’s next Test captain. Discussions are rife about this. Veteran fast bowler Ishant Sharma has described Jasprit Bumrah as the most suitable for this responsibility. However, according to some reports, the BCCI is in favor of handing over this responsibility to young batsman Shubman Gill.

Ishant Sharma’s opinion

In an interview, Ishant said, “If Bumrah is fit, I would like to make him the captain. He has a lot of experience.” However, he also admitted that if Bumrah is unable to play all five Tests, then Shubman Gill could be a good option.

Bumrah’s experience and challenge

Bumrah has previously captained a Test against England in 2022 and also led the team in the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His thinking, smartness on the field and ability to motivate the team are considered excellent. But his fitness has often been a cause of concern, especially due to back injuries. It is being told that Bumrah himself is a bit hesitant about full-time captaincy keeping in mind his fitness.

At the same time, 25-year-old Shubman Gill is being considered as a big star of the future. He is currently captaining Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025 and has also been the vice-captain of India’s ODI and T20 team. His calm nature and the art of taking wise decisions are being liked by the selectors. If Gill is given the captaincy, he will become one of the youngest Test captains of India. He will have to lead the team in the five-match Test series in England starting June 20 – which will prove to be a big test for him.
