New Delhi: Karnataka’s Minister for Commerce and Industries, M. B. Patil has informed that American technology giant Apple is set to open another plant to manufacture iPhone in the state. Talking to the media, the minister stated that Taiwanese electronics manufacturing company Foxconn’s unit, located in the Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) of Devanahalli, is nearly ready for operations. He expressed hope that commercial supply of iPhones could begin as early as the beginning of June. Foxconn manufactures iPhones under contract.
A Milestone in the Manufacturing Sector
“This is not just a milestone in the manufacturing sector, but it signifies a strategic shift. With increasing geopolitical and tariff pressures, India is rapidly becoming Apple’s preferred production hub,” Patil said on social media platform ‘X’. The minister further added that this development strengthens Karnataka’s position in global manufacturing and opens doors to greater foreign investment without compromising stakeholder interests.
Most iPhones Sold in the US Will Be Made in India
Apple CEO Tim Cook has confirmed that for the June quarter, most iPhones sold in the US will be manufactured in India. He remarked, “As a Kannadiga, this is a proud moment for me. From Mysuru to Cupertino, Karnataka is making global headlines.”
The company has acquired 300 acres of land in the ITIR industrial region located in the Doddaballapura and Devanahalli taluks of Bengaluru Rural district.
Apple will continue to invest in India
Apple has also issued a major statement saying that there will be no changes in its investment plans for the country. This comes after US President Donald Trump’s public criticism of Apple’s manufacturing presence in India. According to a report citing government sources, there has been no alteration in Apple’s investment plans in India, and the company has reassured the Indian government of its commitment to use India as a major manufacturing base.
