Mehbooba calls for special session to discuss Operation Sindoor
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday said sending parliamentarian to other countries to explain the rationale of Operation Sindoor was a welcome step but a special session of Parliament should have been convened by the BJP-led Central government to disucss the matter internally.
She shared a post on X stating that it would have been more appropriate and democratic for the government to convene a special session of Parliament. “Sending parliamentarians to various countries to explain the rationale behind Operation Sindoor is a welcome and timely step. In today’s world, where war yields only destruction and is no longer a viable option, not even as a last resort, diplomacy remains our most effective tool,” she said.
“However, it would have been more appropriate and democratic if the government had also convened a special session of Parliament to discuss the matter internally, while simultaneously dispatching delegations abroad,” she added.
On Sunday, Mehbooba visited Tangdhar along the Line of Control in Kashmir to meet the families affected due to shelling by Pakistan. “Once homes – now hollowed out by fire & silence. And those who suffer most? They never chose war,” she wrote on X.
She met multiple families whose homes have been damaged or completely turned into ashes in the area due to Pakistani shelling. “Homes are not battlefields. Families are not collateral. Every war waged by the powerful is a massacre endured by the powerless” she wrote.
